Nickelodeon is starting to kick out merchandise that the fans can enjoy. The best thing is that it’s not only toys that are coming to the market but a bunch of things that even us big kids could enjoy. I will like to share some of these new TMNT items that are coming out, which could be easily overlooked if people are not looking for them. This week I’m covering the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tablet Case.
I pads and Tablets are big things right now for the general public. Used as photo albums, music players, artist tools, writing booklets and so much more. People all over are starting to be seen around with these useful tools, no matter the make of the device, people are finding uses for them. People in any type of business can find a use for this technology. One of the things people like to do with their tablets is personalize them, and what better way to do that than getting a case that matches what you enjoy? Which is where designer cases are coming in, with different things on them. Nickelodeon has jumped into this action with their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Case.
The packaging for this Case is a perfect fit. There’s a clear cover with a hole cut in so you can feel the case inside the packaging. It’s a purple box, with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle logo in the top left hand corner. On the bottom right side of the packaging there’s an image of the Turtles. On the bottom left hand side it says “Fits Tablets up to 10”. Kindle Fire. + Galaxy” and under that it says Universale 10” Tablet Portfolio Case”.
On the back side of the packaging there’s another image of the Turtles all ready to fight. The top left corner has the Nickelodeon logo with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Logo. Under that it says “Universal 10” Tablet Portfolio Case”. Part of the image comes under that part, overlapping the bottom of the image is words “* Protects your tablet Device * Folds Into a stand * Soft material prevents scratches”.
There is the normal stuff you find on the package. The name and address of the company that made the case, Sakar. The fact that all rights belong to Viacom/Nickelodeon. There is a 1 year warranty on the case. And mine has a nice little “Thank you for shopping at Toys R Us” Sticker on it.
The case itself has a nice large image of the Nickelodeon CGI Ninja Turtles from their new series right on the front of the case. All four Turtles, with Donatello front and center. Each ready to jump into a battle. Above them is the text “Turtle Trouble”. The case is colored purple, with a soft feel to it. It can turn turn into a stand. There’s no protection over the corners of the tablet, as each corner is left open. There’s no protective cover inside the case to go over the screen. There is a magnet to hold the case close, which may work as other cases that I’ve seen where it turns off I pads when closed. The only image on the case is the one you see on the cover. Inside there is the Viacom information. There is holes on the back side of the case for what looks to be camera and speakers.
Personally I think they went in the right directions with the detailed art on the case. Using the purple background and having Donatello front and center in the group photo. This is appealing because Donatello is the turtle that loves technology. So to focus their design around Donatello it feels right. And was a very smart marketing choice.
I’ve gone over this case and looked at it with an I pad in the case. It looks nice and is good for a cheap tablet, but I would not recommend it for an I pad other costly tablets, as much as I personally would love to use it for one. In October my sister’s I pad dropped to the ground, it was an open corner on her I pad cover that allowed her I pad to hit the cement. She was sitting and it fell from the bench to the ground, a short drop but that was all it took with an exposed corner. The screen was shattered. So while this cover looks great, the exposed corners makes it not desirable.
This case is still cool though, and I am excited to see the merchandise going in this direction. I hope that they come out with more sturdy cases for adults. I did find this at Toys R Us, so it is not made for adults. I do not see that stopping adults from using them. It does keep the price lower, but also shows that the protection is not going to be as great as it would be for someone who is seriously trying to protect their case during lots of travel and business use.
Sakar was at Toy Fair 2013, and this was one of the items displayed. So it seems this is a product that will be seen through out the year. Sakar is making lots of amazing TMNT products that people can enjoy. So keep an eye here on Cowabunga Corner for more reviews of their Ninja Turtles merchandise.

Cool. If I had this case I'd only use it around the house though, seeing as how it's not protective. Hey Michelle, did you hear about all the new TMNT things that Wal-Mart has? Near the kids clothing, there is a big cardboard TMNT display, and on it are tons of cool things like TMNT pillows, keychains, water bottles, hats, shirts and more! There are also pictures on the technodrome forums if you want to see what the new stuff looks like.
