Throughout 2011, I went to a lot of movies and was left with mix feelings of loving the movie and having issues with the film. Though with a few movies, I did leave with that excited feeling of ‘I have to see this movie another 10 times!’ For me, “The Adventures of Tintin” was one of those amazing movies that blew me away. One which I highly recommend to just about anyone.
“The Adventures of Tintin” is based on the old TV series and comic strip about Tintin and his dog Snowy going on adventures as Tintin is after the next great story. He’s a reporter that knows how to get into trouble. This movie shows just how much trouble one boy and his dog can get into as Tintin is pulled on a long and dangerous adventure to stop a bad guy and find a long lost treasure.
The film starts off with its opening credits, following a shadow of Tintin through an adventure, leading up to old news stories and photos of Tintin. Just to let the people watching this film realize that Tintin is not new to this game, it gives us the feeling as if he’s been at this for a long time and has done many wonderful deeds through the years. When the opening credits end, there’s Tintin having a character sketch drawn at an out door market place. The sketch turns out looking like the cartoon version of him that fans would know and love. From there we see him find a model of a ship that he falls in love with immediately. After buying the ship, two different sets of people come to try and to get the ship from him. This is when Tintin realizes there could be a story about his ship.
After twists and turns of break-ins, killings and information gathering, Tintin finds that there is more to this boat and it’s all connected to an old pirate ship that went down many years ago. Though as he is starting to put the pieces together, he too gets kidnapped and finds himself trapped on the boat. Thanks to the help of Snowy, he escapes the room that he was held in and finds the Captain of the ship, only to learn that the ship has betrayed him. Now Captain Haddock joins Tintin to solve the mystery and get his ship back.
From the script, the cast, the animation and the 3D this film is simply amazing. Wonderful attention to detail, very creative fight scenes and characters that you grow to love. I felt that this was truly one of the best films of the year. I give this an easy 10 out of 10 stars, two thumbs up and cannot wait to see the film again.
The DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack comes to stores on March 13th, and this is a sure buy for me.

As a Belgian who has grown up with Tintin comics, I'm very happy to hear that you loved the movie, Michele!
So did I! :)
Did you know that Tintin creator Hergé actually wanted Spielberg to bring Tintin to the silver screen back in the early Eighties? Sadly, the Belgian artist passed away before having the chance to meet Spielberg about the project...
Anyway, my girlfriend and I visited Brussels (only a few miles away) on the day of the world premiere to enjoy the atmosphere and it was amazing! We even caught a glimpse of mr. Spielberg and actors Andy Serkis and Jamie Bell. Then, to top it all off we actually met Jean-Pierre Talbot, the actor who portrayed Tintin in two live-action movies in the sixties. He was even kind enough to sign an autograph and take pictures with us. A day we won't soon forget! :)
Keep up the excellent blog, Michele!
