Dark Shadows Movie Trailer

Tim Burton’s newest film coming out on May 11th, is Dark Shadows.  Based on the 1960’s soap opera about a rich family in a small fisherman town.  This family has always been surrounded by different things from ghosts to other creatures of the night.  Though the one thing they did not know was that their family has a vampire in the history, Barnabas Collins.  Anyone who watched the TV series knew that Barnabas was not originally a main character or even in the show for nearly 200 episodes, but once he came in he stole the spotlight and became the lead character.

I’ve been a fan of the original TV series for a few months now, watching each episode in order.  Enjoying it for what it is, laughing and finding myself into the plot.  I just recently saw their first colored episode.  So a movie about this sounds fun.  Though at the same time, scary.  Once you get into something and a remake is being made, there’s always a chance of it changing what you like about the series.

Now Tim Burton’s trailer has been released and I find myself with mixed feelings.  It seems to be a comedy, though there has to be more to it than that.  It seems to be all about Barnabas and hints at other stuff.  It focuses mainly on the witch from his past that has come back to try and get him to love her.  Though out of the blue comes lines like “restoring the family business” trying to show there’s more to the movie.  The problem with this trailer is I don’t know how much the rest of the family, or even Victoria Winters who was another lead character in the TV series, will take part in the movie.  While I know Victoria is in the movie, she is ignored in this trailer which makes me wonder how much we really got a feel of what this movie is all about with the trailer.

This is an example that the movie does not look like the old TV series at all.  Though that does not mean I won’t give it a try.  Come May 11th, I’ll be at the theaters interested in seeing Tim Burton’s reimagining of “Dark Shadows”.
