Kodak Moment #105

I got hundreds to thousands of photos through my life.  A lot of which would match up to stories here on Cowabunga Corner, but for one reason or another they are not chosen.  This does not mean that these photos are not worth sharing and do not hold stories of their own.  I would like to keep sharing what I can here on the site, so whenever I can I will share a photo and a story to go along with the photo.  If it’s a part of events that has been shared here, we will link back to the stories of the events themselves as well.  Hope everyone enjoys.  Today’s photo is from New York City in 2005.

This was a very meaningful trip to me, as I almost called the whole thing off.  I was injured at work in October 2004, and life was just never the same.  I had planned this trip to Anime Next for my 3rd year, directly after going to Anime Next in June 2004.  The problem I had with the injury was made clear for me at Motor City Comic Con, where someone turned elbow first sending me down to the ground to where I could not walk for three hours, this made me fear conventions.  Though Brinatello, a dear friend of mine from the TMNT-L forums, convinced me that we could still do the trip.

This one trip taught me that I could still go to conventions, got me to meet a lot of new friends and gave us a wave of stories that we can share for years to come.  I traveled from Michigan to New Jersey with Brinatello and Shadow Wolf.  Our friend Fugitoid met us there, and we made a mess of new friends.  It was truly an event to remember.

This photo is Fugitoid, Brinatello and I at the top of the Empire State Building during one of our nights traveling into the city.  The photo was taken by Shadow Wolf.   A great photo to catch the memories of us goofing off and spending time together.   It was because of the spirit of this trip that I kept doing conventions, to this day.  No matter my pain levels, I know the memories will be worth it if I just keep going forward and live.

Ever have a trip that helped encourage you to get over a fear?  Did any friends help inspire that trip?  Please share stories, comments and reviews below.
