Kodak Moment #32

I got hundreds to thousands of photos through my life.  A lot of which would match up to stories here on Cowabunga Corner, but for one reason or another they are not chosen.  This does not mean that these photos are not worth sharing and do not hold stories of their own.  I would like to keep sharing what I can here on the site, so whenever I can I will share a photo and a story to go along with the photo.  If it’s a part of events that has been shared here, we will link back to the stories of the events themselves as well.  Hope everyone enjoys.  Today’s photo is from my days as a Turtle.

Back when I was the Party Turtle we would do other event such as flea markets, fairs and fast food places.  Set up for “Photo with the Turtle” display.  This is one of those photo shoots, but this was at the Royal Oak Michigan Garage Sale.  It was held in a Parking Garage, there were times we were busy and other times that we were slow.  We were slow at this point, and I decided to take a nap, yes I can sleep in the costumes easy.  So I laid down, with my foam bed around me to protect me from the cement and took a short nap while waiting for kids to show up.  I did not know dad took photos of me sleeping in the costume till I saw the pictures.  There’s a total of three photos from this short nap.

The Krang in this photo is a prop my dad made for these photo shoots.  When we stopped the business in August 1993 he became one of the toys that was kept in my room.  On December 31st, 1994 we went to the Words and Pictures Museum and I got to show Kevin Eastman my costume at his re opening party at their new location.  Northampton's first night is a great time for any who can make it.  During the time we showed Kevin my costume, the choice was made to give this Krang to Kevin Eastman.  It remained as a part of the museum till the day it closed in 1999.  As far as we know, Kevin still has Krang.

This is the first of two costumes that I had.  This costume was made on October 17th, 1990.  The head was used to make the new costume in March 1993, making it so this costume will never be worn again.  Besides for that, it got a lot of battle wounds through the years.  While the head is part of the new costume, I still have the body of this costume as a prized part of my collection.  So many great memories while wearing it.

Did you or do you have a Turtle costume?  Can you sleep in it?  Have you ever seen someone sleeping in a Turtle costume before?  Please share memories, comments or questions below.
