Kodak Moment #52

I got hundreds to thousands of photos through my life.  A lot of which would match up to stories here on Cowabunga Corner, but for one reason or another they are not chosen.  This does not mean that these photos are not worth sharing and do not hold stories of their own.  I would like to keep sharing what I can here on the site, so whenever I can I will share a photo and a story to go along with the photo.  If it’s a part of events that has been shared here, we will link back to the stories of the events themselves as well.  Hope everyone enjoys.  Today’s photo is  Belle with my mother and Jaffa Cakes.

Jaffa Cakes was a Ninja Turtle fan Mascot from England, named after their snacks Jaffa Cakes.  Some stores here in the United States do sell these in their international food sections.  At the time having traveling mascots was one of the big things in the TMNT fandom.  We’d mail them off to each other, take photos, write a journal from the mascot’s point of view and just have fun with them.  Jaffa Cakes has been with me a few times, last known location was with a friend from TMNT-L.  I hope that Jaffa Cakes can travel again.  Jaffa Cakes was not the first of the TMNT mascots, the first one was Spork, a small beanie baby Turtle, with his own costume.

My mom is in her car that we named Rental, because when we got the car it was so nice it reminded us of rental cars.  It was a gift from my Grandma to my mom, really did drive nice and we took care of it for a long time.  Though she loaned it out, and sadly the car did not survive that time.  I know she misses her car a lot, as it’s one of her favorite ones.  And the last big gift she got from her mother.

I love the look on my mom’s face as she’s reaching to give Belle bunny ears.  Her arm is not long enough, so it’s just coming off as a peace sign.  She’s got this big grin on her face.  Just reminds me so much of better times.  They’re parked in Ferndale at the family home we recently lost.  Jaffa is nicely set upon Belle’s shoulder, which is most likely my doing.  This photo was taken around 2006, when I was trying to get Jaffa back active in the fandom.  He’s been at his current location since around that time… 10 years.

Have you ever seen Jaffa Cakes the mascot?  Did it visit your home for a bit?  Or did you see him while he was with another fan?  If so please share your memories of Jaffa Cakes.  All memories, comments and questions welcomed below!
