Kodak Moment #86

I got hundreds to thousands of photos through my life.  A lot of which would match up to stories here on Cowabunga Corner, but for one reason or another they are not chosen.  This does not mean that these photos are not worth sharing and do not hold stories of their own.  I would like to keep sharing what I can here on the site, so whenever I can I will share a photo and a story to go along with the photo.  If it’s a part of events that has been shared here, we will link back to the stories of the events themselves as well.  Hope everyone enjoys.  Today’s photo is from my 8th Birthday Party.

I remember this day, we were planning for me to have a birthday party at Harding Park in Ferndale.  Though I was informed that we were not going to be able to do the party that day as my mother had something else to do.  Instead I was going to have a day out with my father.  So I went out with my dad and we did a few things, he got me a few small presents.  Then asked me if I wanted to go to the park any how, even though the party was cancelled.  I said yes, as I loved going to Harding Park.

Once we pulled up at the park, the first person I saw that I knew was my Grandma then I realized everyone else who was there.  This party was amazing.  I got my talking Secret Bear doll from Care Bears and I got my favorite bike!  They really did surprise me and I hold many fond memories of this day.

Sadly Harding Park has changed a lot, as they took down the wooden playset there and have done a few more changes making it so most of the toys there are only for the really young children.  I got many great memories of the Harding Park I grew up having around, but not one of those memories there tops this one.

In the photo I am standing next to my mom, the one next to me was my best friend at that time.  And next to her is my brother, Bryan at 9 ½ years old.  In the background wearing red was another person from my school days.  Those swing sets in the background are still at Harding Park now, as the only part of the original playground still standing.

What was your favorite birthday party as a child?  Did you get a gift you never forgot?  Please share thoughts, comments and questions below.
