One Year of Nick TMNT Images!

One year ago, Nickelodeon released the very first image showing us the design for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  At that time the Turtles still had two toes, though the rest of the design looks a lot like the Turtles we’re seeing now.

The first image was just an action poster that was shared in the Wall Street Journal.  It was the talk all over the Internet.  Though shortly after that a small group of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans were chosen to visit Nickelodeon Studios. They brought back even more information about the Mutation in Progress.  Oh how excited we were over so little news.

This is Cowabunga Corner's review of the past year and of how much news is already out about this new show.  Going all the way back to Mutation in Progress.

At the time, a lot of the information was released through the fans that saw stuff at Nickelodeon.  We learned about April being a teenager, Donatello going to be taller and skinny than his brothers, Splinter having a child, Don having a crush on April, The Kraangs, The Turtles having three toes and Splinter is taller than he normally is.  The list went on as many different fans made journals out of the stuff they saw at the studio.  Each of the people who went were given thumb drives with a few things on it, as well as round boxes filled with TMNT goodies.  Overall, they were very lucky and seemed to have a great time.

Some of the other very cool news that came out during this time was the voices of Donatello and Leonardo being released.  Rob Paulsen, the original cartoon voice of Raphael, is now the voice of Donatello.  Leonardo is voiced by American Pie actor, Jason Biggs.  They took a little bit of time before releasing the names of Raphael and Michelangelo.

The next thing we got was the tease video that was released.  In the tease video, we saw that Don and Mike now had bladed weapons!  This was a surprise since they were not known for having blades in their weapons ever before.  When slowing down the video we noticed that the blades popped out of both of their weapons.  A twist none the less.

Following this news, we learned that Raphael is going to be voiced by Sean Astin and Michelangelo is being voiced by Greg Cipes.  So the voices of the Turtles got out. Following soon was news that Hoon Lee is the voice of Splinter.  Five of the most important characters in the show names were out before Comic Con International.

We were lucky enough to get an interview with Greg Cipes and Ciro Neili for their work on the upcoming TMNT series!  If you have not seen this interview yet, check it out here.

Though it was around this time that we learned that Comic Con was doing an event for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, another Mutation in Progress event.  This time  anyone who picked up a ticket from the Nickelodeon booth inside Comic Con’s Dealer room were able to attend. Though some fans were able to get tickets through other ways.  The event showed us character designs, this is when a lot of us realized Splinter looks a LOT different than just taller, his coloring is different and he doesn’t look much like a rat at all.  They also showed us the Teen April, Shredder, and Kraang.  They talked about the IDW TMNT Comic books coming out and shared the toys at this event!  They looked so small.  Sadly, no photos were allowed inside.

After Comic Con, we just had the IDW Comics for a long time, as the news about the series was slowly coming out.  We got the name of April’s voice actress, Mae Whitman.  Shredder is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, another returning voice actor as he worked on the 2007 TMNT film!  Though with how quiet it was, people really did focus on the comics as we have a lot of great and new stuff coming from Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman.

Recently, though, the new cartoon series began stealing the thunder again as Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America let us all know about a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Theme Ride.  This was the first time ever that the design was made public for everyone to see.  As the image of the new ride hit around the internet, fans were excited.  For more news of this ride check out the press release for the opening day!

February 1st brought in the news of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Toys.  This August we’re going to start getting all new Ninja Turtle toys based on the classic Turtles and on the new Nickelodeon TMNT!   With the release of all the toy news, a lot of images have been slipping out of the CGI Turtles!  People got pictures of the set up that Playmate Toys had at Toy Fair, which included images from the CGI show.  We’re also seeing full looks at this new design as they even gave out sample toys to people who were there.

Here’s a review showing the Michelangelo toy for anyone who hasn’t seen...

With all these images still flying around from the Toy Fair, it was only a matter of time before Nickelodeon was to start working on a website.  Some fans on the Technodrome Forum found this news and now the images are out for fans to enjoy, before Nickelodeon has the website ready.  In fact, the site where the images were, is no longer working.  It’s great to know that they’re working at getting this website ready, though the real question is... what is happening with The original Official Ninja Turtle Website that had a note saying we’d see something on it in 2011, though has not yet been updated.

One year since the first image from Nickelodeon with so much great stuff released for us.  Personally I can not wait to see what else they got for us. I’m most excited about seeing the TV show when it premieres.  They got me on the edge of my seat, excited about whatever they are up too.

What are your thoughts of the progress we’ve seen through the year?  What news has you most excited about the new show?  What news has you most weirded out about the new show?  Do you think Nickelodeon will be able to capture the feeling of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where us old school fans will enjoy it as much as the new fans that will be seeing this series?  Share your thoughts in the comments below!  (remember all email addresses are kept private).

I'm so excited about the new series and toys. Unfortunately, it'll probably be 2016 before we get them down here in Brazil (and for 9x the price).

Awww that is one of the bad things in entertainment, how long it takes for things to get into other countries. Hopefully it won't take that long to get there. International launches have been listed for 2013. So hopefully that counts for you too!

I am so excited for this show! If it does do well, then this will be the second successful TMNT series. I love the turtles and if it is bad, than I'm going to be furious. This is one this Nick can't screw up!

I am very WORRIED .... I don´t like this style and turn that the Turtles & Co. are getting ... I don´t have a good feeling about this series =: S
