Random Collection #33

Throughout the years of being a Ninja Turtle fan, my collection has been growing.  Every year I get something new that joins the collection.  Growing since 1989, I have over 500 Ninja Turtle toys out of package and over 300 in package, as well as books, animation cels, original comic art, scripts and so much more.  To cover all of this on Cowabunga Corner is not something I really think I can do.  Though I get a lot of questions about my collection, so I figured I could do random stories from time to time to share one item in my collection.  This one is about Fugitoid 2009 Playmates Vacuum Sealed figure.

In 2009 Playmates had a mail only toy come out for Fugitoid.  This toy is one that Peter Laird really wanted on the market.  It’s vacuum sealed, with no movement whatsoever.  And very very shiny.  I personally ordered two of these, one to keep in package and one to have on display.  The box that it came in was just pure white, no real designs on it.  The bottom of the box had the Playmates logo and all the legal information.

When I first got the toy I thought he would be able to move like most toys from Playmates.  It did not take long for me to realize that he was going to remain in the same pose.  Which is cool since it does match a page from the comics.  Personally I do like my toys being able to move around, I thought I’d be able to do a lot of different poses with him and the NECA Turtles.  I still found some stuff I could do with him, just not as much.  Which makes it so I leave him in the display case most of the time.  Scared to even put him in a bag or box of other toys that he might break.

I am surprised on how much I’ve found more of these and how many more have came my way.  I have given some of these toys out to friends.  The best thing I ever saw done with these was when Peter Laird used them for his Christmas Tree one year.  I was highly amused.

A little behind the scenes story.  I bumped into two guys who use to work at Playmates Toys.  I’ve known these guys on and off, and I’m going to leave their names out of this.  We talked about the Fugitoid toys, when one of them heard that they were released he laughed and looked to the other guy “Wasn’t it your job to keep telling Peter no?”  The other guy smirked and agreed.  They told me that Peter has been trying to get this toy made for a long time, seems when the one guy left the next person who had that job could not tell Peter no as easy.  I am happy that Peter was able to get this toy made, as I do think he looks good in the display case with the NECA Turtles.

Do you have the vacuum sealed Fugitoid figure?  If so, what do you think of this toy?  Please share all reviews, comments and questions below!
