Throughout the years of being a Ninja Turtle fan, my collection has been growing. Every year I get something new that joins the collection. Growing since 1989, I have over 500 Ninja Turtle toys out of package and over 300 in package, as well as books, animation cels, original comic art, scripts and so much more. To cover all of this on Cowabunga Corner is not something I really think I can do. Though I get a lot of questions about my collection, so I figured I could do random stories from time to time to share one item in my collection. This one is about an original art page from Image TMNT series.
Back in 1997 Image comics picked up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This comic series went in a much different direction than Mirage, Archie, the movies, cartoon, and the Next Mutation. They hurt the Turtles, destroyed the lair, changed up their roles and just gave us a thrill ride through the entire series. This page here is from a scene in issue for 4 when Michaelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo thought Donatello was dead after finding bones where he last was. This is their funeral for him.
This is one of my favorite pages in the Image Comics. The artwork brings so much to the page, penciled by Frank Fosco and inked by Andrew Pepoy. I bought this piece straight from Frank Fosco in 2000 at Motor City Comic Con, referred to on here as “Turtle Con 2000”. I was very lucky at the time to buy a handful of pieces from Frank, though this remains one of my top favorite.
