Review: TMNT 16 Valentine Masks

Another day closer towards that Holiday which have couples a glow.  Which means more TMNT for us to show.  With Raphael, Leonardo and Michelangelo… what about Donatello?  This is a review of cards that seem short one of the Turtles.  First time I’ve really found him neglected from this of all Holidays.  These are the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 16 Valentines with 16 with Punchout Mask.

When I picked up the box I did not really look at the back, so it did not hit me at all that there would only be two masks.  I saw the front mention 16, that sounded great to me.  Thought it would be four of each Turtle.  But when I sat down and opened the box, I took fast notice to only Leonardo and Raphael masks coming out.  I thought the cards would at least be Donatello and Michelangelo, and found myself floored that it was Michelangelo and Raphael.  Totally shy of Donny.  Besides for his face with hearts in the eyes under the word Turtle.  And he’s on the mini poster that only one person can have.   These facts kind of got me disappointed with this box.

This is eight sets of the same two cards.  The Michelangelo card is with the Raphael mask and the Raphael card is with the Leonardo mask.  They at least supply the straps that goes with the masks in a bag.  Though it just seems so wrong to have not included one of the Turtles in any of the main pieces of art in the box.  And with so many fans of Donatello and April for the Nickelodeon series, it’s a big surprise that he’s the Turtle cut from this pack.

The masks are okay, think art so that it will be seen good from across a room.  And there’s not much to the cards themselves just an action shot so most kids won’t feel too badly about destroying their favorite Turtle.  Personally I find this as an interesting idea, but not something I am thrilled about.  I liked to keep all of my cards, not destroy them and in this case you’re putting a hole through which ever Turtle you get to pop out the eye hole.  So it’s either a mask or a card, not both.  And they’re ready to tear, so if you choose card it may not last long. This really depends on what you’re looking for in a Valentine gift, and if you want it to last for the person you give it too.

This is made by Magic Paper Group, who’ve made a lot of the cool TMNT products that have been coming out.  While it’s not one of my favorite sets they’ve released I still do find the company as a good place that has been releasing a lot of fun ideas for us.  I give them a thumbs up for creativity with this product, but a thumb down for having to destroy the card to use the gimmick.

Have you seen the 16 Valentine Masks set at stores?  Have you bought it?  What is your thoughts of this product?  Please share reviews, comments and questions below!
