Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been getting some fun products from Funko for a few years now. With the pop Ninja Turtles I’ve shared all four Turtles, Splinter, Shredder, April, The Foot Ninja, Bebop and Rocksteady. That leaves one release to that line which is now being covered, this is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Van Pop! Vinyl Vehicle with Michaelangelo.
I will say I was excited when I got this, as I was wanting it for awhile, it was gifted to me by my friends at the Toonseum earlier this year. I was back in Pittsburgh when doing the review, Alopex joined me and we filmed it in her attic. I know the biggest shock to me with this product came from the box itself with the words “Not a Toy”. I’ve always seen Funko Pops as toys, yes they’re meant for adult collectors. But they’re toys. They’re plastic fun little characters with moving heads. But the box says “Not a Toy” This caused many bloopers through the video as we kept busting up laughing to that phrase.
“Not a Toy” was proven with this toy by the fact that the wheels do not move on the Turtle Van. This is a big disappointment in the product, as I thought for sure it would have moving wheels. That lack of an easy feature, has brought mixed feelings to the review of the overall product. Watch the video to see just how much this little detailed surprised us and choices that could be made because of it.
Now while the box may say “Not a Toy” I would like to point out that when shopping at stores such as Target, where do you find the Funko Pop characters? The Toy section. So while they want to confuse us and state that these are not toys, I will like to state that I will keep seeing them as toys. They’re set up with my other toys now as we speak. Toy is in the eye of the beholder, and for me, they hold no other real purpose than being a toy. They’re not tools, they’re not electronics, they’re not clothing, they’re not bedding, they’re not school supplies, and so many other things that they could never be. What they really are, is an toy meant for adult fans who want characters from their favorite shows and movies around them. These will work good for kids too, since there’s no real small parts to it.
I recommend the Funko Pop TMNT Van to people who are trying to finish their collection. For fans of the Turtle van and wouldn’t mind one that fits on a shelf and will not roll around. And for people who want to support companies releasing products based on the classic TMNT designs. I will say that I wish that this Turtle Van has moving tires, while the Turtle Van that came with my Classic TMNT DVD set, did not have moving tires. That is so mixed up, that it’s wrong.
