Movies In Theater

SYNOPSIS: Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his “particular set of skills,” to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter.

Starring: Famke Janssen, Forest Whitaker, Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace

Directed by: Olivier Megaton

There's just some times you don't need to continue doing sequels. This is one of those times. I thoroughly enjoyed the first Taken movie and how it brought Liam Neeson to the forefront as an action movie actor. The first taken movie was clever, thrilling, well acted and directed. The first sequel was okay, but unnecessary, so I already feel that this next sequel is just as unnecessary. I do hope this is the last one in the Taken series, and we can move on to a different action film for Mr Neeson.

Release Date: January 9, 2015

Blu-Ray & DVDs

SYNOPSIS:Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater's Boyhood is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (Ellar Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, Boyhood charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before and is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting.

Starring: Bonnie Cross, Elijah Smith, Ellar Coltrane, Ellar Salmon, Ethan Hawke, Libby Villari, Lorelei Linklater, Marco Perella, Patricia Arquette, Steven Chester Prince

Directed by: Richard Linklater

Boyhood is suppose to an exceptional piece of film. Most critics have given it an easy five stars, and it is the expected favorite for the Academy Awards' Best Picture.

The premise of the movie is quite intriguing, as we are literally watching a all of these actors grow up on screen. The area I live doesn't show too many of these art house type films, unfortunately, so I did miss out on this while it was showing in theaters. However, I do plan on watching this movie relatively soon.

SYNOPSIS: Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will give a fearless look inside the music, moves, and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.

Starring: Chadwick Boseman, Craig Robinson, Dan Aykroyd, Fred Melamed, Jill Scott, Lennie James, Nelsan Ellis, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis

Directed by: Tate Taylor

I don't know why, but I love biopic movies. I find them interesting, even if they are historically inaccurate as they tend to be. However, I did not see this movie this year. It seems my movie going habit has decreased greatly, for a variety of reasons. I will more than likely watch Get On Up now that it is released to blu-ray.

This particular blu-ray does have some nice features added to it, such as: Deleted/Extended/Alternate Scenes, Full Song Performances, Extended Song Performances, Long Journey to the Screen, Chadwick Boseman: Meet Mr. James Brown, The “Get On Up” Family, On Stage with the Hardest Working Man, The Founding Father of Funk, Tate Taylor's Master Class, and Feature Commentary with Director/Producer Tate Taylor. I think it is great that they included full song performances as one of the features.

SYNOPSIS: A supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery, and romance, Horns follows Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Juno Temple). Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns growing from his head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses–an effective tool in his quest to discover what happened to his girlfriend and exact revenge on her killer. Based on the best-selling novel by Joe Hill.

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, David Morse, Heather Graham, James Remar, Joe Anderson, Juno Temple, Kathleen Quinlan, Kelli Garner, Max Minghella

Directed by: Director: Alexandre Aja

Horns is a novel I started reading, however, I never finished it. Shame on me. I do like Joe Hill's writing. For those who don't know, he is Stephen King's son and he has the same flare as his father does for the horror genre. I was eager to watch this movie, as it has been on Amazon Prime for a while now, but I just didn't for whatever reason.

I know I enjoyed what I did read of the book and I have enjoyed the work overall of the actors and director of this movie. The movie itself hasn't garnered a lot of publicity nor has it earned a lot of praise, which I find a tad disappointing.

SYNOPSIS: A soldier (Dan Stevens) introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

Starring: Dan Stevens, Joel Moore, Leland Orser, Maika Monroe, Sheila Kelley

Directed by: Adam Wingard

The Guest is another movie I've been very interested in watching. One of my dear friends did get to watch it and really enjoyed it and said I would as well. It's from the creators of "You're Next", another horror movie that I was pleasantly surprised with while watching. I can only hope The Guest comes close to being as good.

The special features are nothing to write home about and are just the normal run of the mill features. They include Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary by Director Adam Wingard and Writer Simon Barrett, Q&A with Dan Stevens, and Feature Commentary with Director Adam Wingard and Writer Simon Barrett.

SYNOPSIS: Archer moves to Mondays as the gang at ISIS undergoes a radical change in season five of the animated comedy.

Starring: H. Jon Benjamin, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, Chris Parnell, Aisha Tyler, and Jessica Walter

Archer is a show I have had a hard time getting in to, but my husband and most of my co-workers adore this show. They get so excited when they hear one of our group has started to watch it and then start quoting and geeking out with each other. It's quite amusing. I suppose I should give it a better try.

When conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler (Sarah Paulson) are taken to the hospital, Elsa sees her chance to finally drum up some business for her sideshow, hoping the two sisters will save her troupe once and for all. Other members include Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters), a boy born with syndactyly who dreams of leaving the carny life behind and living a normal life.
