CCN: Rob Paulsen Interview May 2018

Through Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles history there is a group of amazing people who can say they’ve been along for the ride of a lifetime through different areas of Ninja Turtle history.  Rob Paulsen is one of those amazing people that can share stories from working on the original TMNT series from 1987 to 1995, as Raphael.  He came back in the 2012 Nickelodeon series all the way through 2017 as the voice of Donatello.  And now he’s staying with the Ninja Turtles for their newest series coming out this fall, “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.  I caught up with Rob Paulsen at Motor City Comic Con where he agreed to give us this short interview.

A Turtle Fan’s Dream Come True

While I have been to a couple conventions of a similar variety, I had not yet been close enough to a comic convention that contained much of anything I cared to pay for. A few months ago, I saw it announced that TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman would be in Raleigh at the NC Comicon and there were early bird tickets that included Eastman exclusive perks such as early seating for panels and extra signatures. I immediately bought one as a birthday present to myself, but I really didn’t need an excuse.

Rise of the TMNT : Raphael's Design

The internet exploded shortly after the designs for the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series was released in February.  As fans of all ages found themselves split down the middle upon the new look and feel for the Ninja Turtles, as there’s no question that this is a road they’ve never been on before.  I tried to write one story that would include my thoughts on the Facebook Live, designs, show overall and even the toys.  But it got long and hard to write, let alone read.  Which brings me here, where I’m going to give a short write up about each of the things revealed about “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.  Let’s talk about Raphael and his new design.

Cast for Nickelodeons Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesSince 1987 the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been going through reboots.  MWS was the first to really change the Turtles, with David Wise as the writer who had the job to make these Turtles kid friendly.  With every new incarnation of the Turtles, comes big changes.  Some changes stay, some changes are only in those incarnation of these characters.  Each ride is it’s own adventure which has it’s beginning middle and end.  As fans, the best we can do is see where the creative team takes us, and hopefully enjoy the ride.  A new ride is starting, with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
