Getting into Karate

Growing up was very hard for me, though my family life was great, school was a total nightmare with all the fights I had to go through.  People would gang up and attack me, and when asked why, it was always “because my friend was doing it”.  Most of the years I would not even attempt to hit back. I hated pain and it would go through my head, if I hate it why cause others to be in pain?  So instead, I would drop down and let them beat me up.  Most superheroes taught you that you needed superpowers or gadgets to be able to defend yourself.  So the idea of fighting back for defense did not come to me till I became a fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Friend Memories #2

I’ve written about bullies and shared some of the bad stuff that I’ve been through.  Though while it’s easy to write and complain about people, sometimes we forget to cherish those that we have.  So I’m going to take time and do write ups about friends that have come into my life who I still know and hang out with to this day and how these people were able to see through the lies and cruelty of those others around us, and get to know me for who I am.  This friend was introduced to me from my friend, Belle, and end up becoming one of my closes friends.

World Steam Expo 2012 Review

This last month, I went to the World Steam Expo in Dearborn, Michigan.  This is a great event held yearly based around the fandom of Steam Punk with guests, panels, concerts and a great dealer room.  This is Cowabunga Corner's second year covering the World Steam Expo.  We arrived at the event on Friday and spent the full weekend floating around checking out different events and talking to many people.

Turtle Con 2003 - Fan Booth

When we did Turtle Con 2000, the original plan was to make money to keep doing the booth each year.  Though we did not make money.  In 2001 we held the booth again, but less people came and it still cost as much to hold.  So in 2002 we skipped out on doing a booth at the convention.  When 2003 rolled around we discussed the idea of doing a convention booth for the return of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  So we pulled the money together and did a weekend of friends that took a lot of work and was a lot of fun.

Movie Review: High School

Many different type of movies come out through the year and I find myself usually more into the action, adventure, superhero, or animated features.  To be fair, when I receive a screening pass, I will go to it and just give it a try even if the trailer does not hold my attention. Sometimes I get surprised, like Battleship where I went in not expecting much and came out so thrilled with the fact that I saw the movie.   This was one of those pictures where I went in not sure about it, when I told people I got tickets for this movie the biggest reaction is was “what movie?”  The movie is “High School”.

Review: Motor City Comic Con 2012

Every year I go to Motor City Comic Con.  It’s one of the smaller conventions that I go to.  I started going here in 1997 and have made many friends at this event over the years.  In fact, my friends are the only reason I still go to the event.  They don’t really have a lot of stuff there that holds my attention anymore as their guests charge for autographs, their panels are hard to hear in, and they’re overpriced for this size of an event.  Though I still manage to get into the show every year to see a few dealers and guests who’ve become my friends through the years.

This Weekend! Michigan Action Figure Expo!

This upcoming Sunday, I will be at the Michigan Action Figure Expo in Battle Creek, MI.  I’ve been spending the past month getting ready for this event.  I will be bringing some rare TMNT items from throughout the years; toys, comics and more.  We also have decided to have a real treat for everyone who enjoys Cowabunga Corner and decides to come to this wonderful event.

Friend Memories #1

I’ve written about bullies and shared some of the bad stuff that I’ve been through.  Though while it’s easy to write and complain about people, sometimes we forget to cherish those that we have.  So I’m going to take time and do write ups about friends that have come into my life, who I still know and hang out with to this day.  These people were able to see through the lies and cruelty of those others around us, and get to know me for who I am.  I’m going to start with one girl who in 1991 decided to sit next to me in our science class.
